India Small Group Tour
Tiger Safari India

The Majesty of a lonely beast………

Dusk descends on the Indian dadar. As the giant fire orb sinks into the sal forest, and the animals rustle from their shady slumber deep in the jungle, a group of men sit in a Jeep beneath a spreading banyan tree, eagerly scanning the darkening world around them. In the distance, a spotted deer yelps anxiously. Then, the plaintive cry of the peacock. The monkeys scurry nervously between the branches, their games forgotten.

A tigress is on the move. And the frantic alarm calls of the forest herald her every pace. It is said of the tiger that you see him only if he wishes to be seen.

With its orange hide marked with dark stripes, its white underbelly, long tail, huge paws and fearsome teeth they are amazingly beautiful and with those wonderful yellow/green eyes that are round they look straight at you, see a tiger in the wild and you will be mesmerised. When India achieved her nationhood in 1947 there were 40,000 tigers in the wild throughout the country - NOW THERE ARE 1,000! The Royal Bengal Tiger of India is justifiably called the "King of the Jungle." It is the largest of the Big Cats.

India, being home to about 60% of the world's wild tiger population, is now the best hope for tiger survival.

The tiger is an incredible sight.

Imposing gateways and light-hearted palaces were built in red sandstone within this fortified city only to be abandoned a few years later. Among the complex are the places for his queens - Jodha Bai, Mariyam and his Turkish sultana, built in varying styles, each perfect in itself. Upon arrival in Agra, check in to the hotel. DAY 09: BANDHAVGARH.
In 1217 A.D. a young adventurer departed from his native Venice on a voyage of discovery. Among the other incredible stories he related in his "Book of Marvels", he spoke of a wondrous land filled with curious animals, like elephants, rhinos and the great striped cats. That land was India. The man was Marco Polo.

For long, Africa has been regarded as the Mecca of Wildlife. Justifiably so, but in the recent years the natural wealth of the Indian Subcontinent has begun to offer naturalists, tourists and researchers a fascinating alternative to the once dark continent.

Now, imagine yourself in an open Gypsy slowly and silently cruising along a dense forest trail, listening to the alarm calls of a Langur warning the presence of a Tiger. You feel a tingling sensation in the nape of your neck as the forest floor becomes quiet, and you silently watch, through the early morning mist, a faint image of yellow and black stripes crossing the trail ahead. You move on, as the early rays of the sun make an array of magical shapes through the trees across the forest floor, and your lungs revel in the fresh morning air.

Such is the experience at Bandhavgarh National Park; one of the few remaining havens for the pride of Indian Wildlife - the Royal Bengal Tiger.
Bandhavgarh is a new National Park with a very long history. Set among the Vindhya hills of Madhya Pradesh with an area of 168sq miles (437sq kms) it contains a wide variety of habitats and a high density of game, including a large number of Tigers. This is also the White tiger country. These have been found in the old state of Rewa for many years. The last known was captured by Maharaja Martand Singh in 1951.
The most effective way to search for Tigers is by jeep, but once spotted, the best way to observe the king of the jungle undisturbed and up close is on elephant back. This will be the format of our safaris, first by jeep then on elephant back. If the early morning Safari is a thriller then the late afternoon rendezvous to get another glimpse of the Tiger, and watch the shadows grow taller as dusk approaches and the cacophony of birds grows louder in the trees, is not to be missed experience.

The nights in Bandhavgarh are an enigma- the twigs of the bonfire crackling in the resort lawn, combined with the calling of the jackal, the silhouettes of the trees against a starlit sky and perhaps, a distant rumbling roar deep in the heart of the forest.
It's an experience of elation and sadness. Elation: to have experienced a part of our rich bio-diversity. Sadness: considering the state of the dwindling Tiger population and our depleting forest reserve …will our children ever be able to witness nature in all its pristine glory?
Overnight: at the hotel

DAY 10: BANDHAVGARH-KANHA (260 KMS/06 HRS).
Morning after breakfast drive to Kanha. Upon arrival check in at the hotel. Singinawa is an eco-friendly, plastic free resort, using solar energy & rainwater harvesting. Get a sweeping view of towering tropical trees from the window of your cottage. Take a plunge in the freeform pool, take a dip in the hot tub at the spa, take a walk in the woods and by the river side. Learn the secrets of mysterious Indian spices, be a shopaholic at the local market and adorn traditional style henna. Enjoy the surroundings and the soak in the wild atmosphere!
Overnight stay at hotel.

DAY 11: KANHA.
Kanha's sal and bamboo forests, rolling grasslands and meandering streams stretch over 940 sq km in dramatic natural splendor. This is original Kipling country, of which he wrote so vividly in his Jungle Book. The same abundance of wildlife species exists today in Kanha National Park, which forms the core of the Kanha Tiger Reserve created in 1974 under Project Tiger. The park is the only habitat of the rare hard ground barasingha (Cervus Duvaceli Branderi) at hotel Singinawa: Sinsinawa is a Sherpa word which means 'Protectors of the Sacred Forest' and is the philosophy which guides us.

Located on 55 acres of land, in the tiger heartland of the world, Singinawa Jungle Lodge offers a unique experience of the jungles of central India with all the comforts of a world class lodge. The lodge offers the chance to not only learn about the tiger and its habitat but to also experience ecologically responsible tourism and see conservation at work benefiting local communities and the Tiger Reserve.
