We depart the Ashdod Port and drive to Jerusalem. Upon arrival, we will ascend the Mount of Olives for a panoramic view of Jerusalem with the Dome of the Rock in the center of the Temple Mount. We then descend the Mount of Olives along the Palm Sunday Route to Getsemane, the place where Jesus spent his last days before he was taken by the Romans to be crucified. We will enter the Old City at the Dung Gate and walk to the Western Wall, the last remaining wall of the 2nd Temple at the time of Jesus, the most holy Jewish site. We then continue to the Via Dolorosa with the Stations of the Cross, through the colorful Arab Bazaar to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Continue to Bethlehem where we will visit the Church of the Nativity. We depart Bethlehem in the late afternoon and return to Ashdod and our ship |

We depart Ashdod and drive across the desert to Qumran, where in 1947 a young Bedouin shepherd discovered what would become known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. We will walk through some of the caves as well as to see a short film about the lives of the Essenes, a religious sect that lived here during the time of Jesus. We will then travel south to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Massada. Massada is the site of King Herod's desert mountain get-away palace and scene of the zealots' last stand against the Roman Legion. We will explore the the bathhouse, storerooms, the ramp, and one of the oldest synagogues in the world. Next we will travel further south to the lowest point on Earth, the Dead Sea, where will visit one of luxurious Hotel/spa resorts for lunch. We will spend the afternoon enjoying the spa facilities of the hotel and floating on the unsinkable waters of the Dead Sea. We depart Tel Aviv in the mid-afternoon and return to Ashdod and our ship |
