DAY 03 DELHI. Breakfast at Hotel in Delhi.
After a hearty breakfast you should be ready for a full day tour of some of the city's most exciting sites. The National Museum, New Delhi has in its possession over 2,00,000 works of exquisite art, both of Indian and Foreign origin covering more than 5,000 years of our cultural heritage. The rich holdings of various creative traditions and disciplines which represent a unity amidst diversity, an unmatched blend of the past with the present and strong perspective for the future, bring history to life. Moving on to the Craft Museum-where Ink drawings on parchment, handmade Himalayan shawls, mirrored fabrics and other souvenirs are on display. There are often live demonstrations by craftsmen, and the museum itself has an absorbing array of exhibits, including an artisan's entire wooden house stuffed into the back of a room. Next and high on our list of out art tour is the Gallery Nature Morte. Founded in New York's East Village in 1982 and closed in 1988, Peter Nagy revived Nature Morte in New Delhi in 1997 as an itinerant gallery and a curatorial experiment. Since then, Nature Morte has become synonymous in India with challenging and experimental forms of art; championing conceptual, photographic, and installation genres within a commercial market that remains fixated on painting. Concentrating primarily on the works of Indian artists, Nature Morte has also organized projects and exhibitions with international artists coming to India and combining their works with those of Indian artists to foster cross-cultural communications. We end the day with a visit to the Art Alive Gallery- Art Alive Gallery is one of the leading and forward-looking galleries in India. It was set up in 2001 by Sunaina Anand to aid Indian art practices. The Gallery has successfully bridged a distance between the two centuries, while exploring new paradigms by putting up shows like: 'Bridges' (2005), 'Tatva'(2006), 'An Indian Summer' (2007) and 'Generation Next' (2007). Also it facilitates a platform for innovative, experimental art practices that respond to present socio-cultural dilemmas, amongst which are solo shows: 'Encounter' by Veer Munshi (2006), 'Distinguished Company'. In the evening a cocktail reception introducing the group to Ms. Bulbul Sharma, a leading Artist based in Delhi is organised and guests will have an opportunity to interact and discuss the present day art scene in India with Ms. Sharma.

Take a boat ride on the holy River Ganges to see the extraordinary early morning activities taking place. This is an experience! Later, visit the Kirti Art Gallery, on display are the unique paintings of the Nathdwara School. The Nathadwara school of Rajasthani painting has its origins in the Mewar style but rapidly developed a dynamism and bold rhythm on its own. The themes were centered on the worship of Srinathaji, an aspect of Krishna, personal devotion to whom was the central feature of the ritual and liturgy enjoined by Sri Vallabhacharya. The production was high due to the incessant demand of the pilgrims so that school flourished right into the twentieth century. The school is presently undergoing a revival in which ancient forms are reinterpreted by traditional artists with extraordinary skill and a modern inventiveness

Vishal Misra was born in the city of Mumbai, India. Growing up in India, he had a traditional upbringing, which largely set the undertone for his work. Over the years, he has lived in many cities in Asia, Europe and the Americas, which further expanded his experience through a multitude of cultural influences.
In his drawings and his paintings, he portrays the varied experiences, emotions and events in his life from his unique perspective. He infuses subtle symbols and corporeal forms inspired from the South-Asian cities and mythology to render a message. His use of bold bright contrasting colors is very much like the visuals of India. He is the Vice-President of Mississauga Art Society and a member to various Art organizations. Vishal currently resides and works in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. |
