Tour Summary: |
|
| |
The tour begins in Istanbul, where we will see the most important sites of Constantinople's former glory. We will learn about the battles fought in Turkey by visiting Gallipoli, Dardanelles and Canakkale, before exploring Troy and Pergamum and the relics left over from the Trojan War. We will travel to Kusadasi, situated on Turkey's Aegean coast, from where we will explore the ancient city of Ephesus, before visiting the white limestone cascades of Pamukkale. We will then enjoy the natural beauty and historical remnants of the Greek islands of Santorini and Mykonos, before heading to Athens, home to the world renowned Acropolis. The Tour concludes in Athens. |

Day 1 Thursday : Istanbul - Arrive
Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Welcome briefing. Overnight in Istanbul. |

Day 2 Friday : Istanbul
Full day tour of Istanbul including the Topkapi Palace, the official and primary residence in the city of the Ottoman Sultans for approximately 400 years (excluding harem) and the Hippodrome, from the days of Constantinople's glory as an imperial capital. We will also visit the largest mosque in Turkey—the stunning Blue Mosque. Continue to St. Sophia and the colorful Grand Bazaar. Overnight in Istanbul.
Optional: Dinner with belly dancing entertainment. (B)

Day 3 Saturday : Gallipoli / Dardanelles / Canakkale
This morning depart for Gallipoli and visit Anzac Cove, named after the acronym from the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) in World War I. Continue to the Lone Pine Cemetery, which is the location of one of the five memorials on the Gallipoli Peninsula commemorating servicemen killed in the campaign from the former British Empire with no known grave. We will then cross the Dardanelles to Canakkale. Overnight in Canakkale. (B, D). |

Day 4 Sunday : Troy / Pergamum / Kusadasi
Today visit Troy, famous for its wooden horse, and learn about its pivotal role during the Trojan War. We then continue to the ancient Greek city of Pergamum, filled with relics and ruins of the past. Finally we continue on to Kusadasi. Overnight in Kusadasi. (B, D) |

Day 5 Monday : Ephesus & St. Mary's House / Kusadasi.
Today you will tour Ephesus, one of the most magnificent excavations in the world. Visit the Odeon (concert hall), the Fountain of Trajan and the steam-heat Baths of Scolastika. Continue to the majestic Temple of Hadrian, Latrines (public toilets) and the marble Library of Celsus, built to hold 12,000 scrolls. Also enjoy the Great Theatre, the largest one in antiquity with a capacity of 24,000 seats where St. Paul preached. Walk along the Arcadian Way, the same path that Mark Antony and Cleopatra once rode in procession. Afterwards visit the humble chapel on the site of the little house where the Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her last days. Despite many controversies, the Vatican has officially sanctioned the site for pilgrimage. Overnight in Kusadasi.

Day 6 Tuesday: Aphoridisias / Pamukkale
Today we drive through fertile valleys to the city of Aphrodisias, named after Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. Sculptures made of marble from Aphrodisias were famous in the Roman world. We continue to Pamukkale, known as the "cotton castle" for its white limes cascades. Overnight in Pamukkale. (B, D) |

Day 7 Wednesday: Hierapolis / Marmaris
We spend this morning visiting Hirepolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its hot springs and well-preserved ruins. Afterwards we continue south to the resort city of Marmaris, located on the Mediterranean Coast of Turkey, where you have the afternoon free to enjoy the lovely weather, long coastlines and outstanding views. Overnight in Marmaris. (B, D) |

Day 8 Thursday: Marmaris / Rhodes
This morning we transfer to the port for a hydrofoil trip to Rhodes, Greece. On arrival we will be transferred to our hotel for the night. Overnight in Rhodes. (B) |

Day 9 Friday: Rhodes
Today is a day of leisure. You may choose to visit the Medieval city of Old Rhodes - the city was divided into three parts: the northern part included the Acropolis of the Knights and the Palace of the Grand Master while the southern part includes Hora, were the commoners lived. The Jewish Quarter is the third section and the least developed commercially in terms of tourism and is mostly residential, though it also boasts some great bars, restaurants, cafes and shops. There is also an optional tour to Lindos, a beautiful little village overlooked by an ancient Acropolis, for those who do not wish to visit Old Rhodes. Overnight in Rhodes. (B) |

Day 10 Saturday: Rhodes / Santorini
Today you will be transferred to the airport for a flight to Santorini. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight on Santorini. (B) |

Day 11 Sunday: Santorini
Today is a free day, during which you can explore one of the many picturesque villages of Santorini or enjoy a sun-soaked afternoon on the beach. The present-day crescent shape of the island is a result of volcanic activity in prehistoric times: Santorini is what remains of an enormous volcanic explosion dated back 3,600 years. Overnight on Santorini. (B) |

Day 12 Monday: Santorini / Mykonos
Today you will be transferred to the pier for a hydrofoil / ferry ride to Mykonos. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. Tonight you will have the chance to enjoy the nightlife of Mykonos, one of the most cosmopolitan islands in Europe, at your leisure. Overnight in Mykonos. (B) |

Day 13 Tuesday: Mykonos
Today you can explore the many beaches and landmarks of Mykonos and absorb the ambiance of this Cycladic Island during this day of leisure. Visit the Mykonos windmills, Little Venice and the Paraportiani, or spend the day in the Archaeological or Aegean Maritime Museum. Overnight in Mykonos. (B) |

Day 14 Wednesday: Mykonos / Athens
Enjoy a free morning in Mykonos before boarding an afternoon flight to Athens (flight not included). On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Tonight enjoy an Optional dinner with some local dancing, or visit the quaint Plaka area packed with open-air taverns and traditional shops. Overnight in Athens. (B) |

This morning you will be taken on a guided tour of the Acropolis, the historical site that dominates the city skyline and offers impressive views.
